Specialist Solutions - Remote Operations

Autonomous drone operations no on-site pilot required

DJI docking stations enable drones to launch, fly a mission, land, recharge, and upload data completely automatically, on a schedule or on demand, without a pilot physically present on site. Look Up Pro supplies, integrates, and operates these systems.

DJI Docking Platform Core Capabilities

What the docking system does automatically

Drone launches on schedule or on remote command

Flies the programmed mission surveillance, inspection, mapping

Returns to dock, lands, and recharges autonomously

Uploads footage and data to cloud accessible anywhere

Operates in rain, wind, and low-light conditions

Mission logs and health monitoring via remote dashboard

No on-site pilot required for routine operations

A permanent aerial capability, not a booked fly-by

Traditional drone operations require a pilot to mobilise to site, fly the mission, and depart. Docking changes this entirely the drone lives on site in a weatherproof charging station and can be deployed from anywhere in the world via a secure internet connection.

Remotely deployed from anywhere

The station operator can launch a flight from a computer or phone anywhere with an internet connection. No physical presence required at the site to activate the drone.

Scheduled autonomous missions

Recurring missions run automatically on a set timetable daily surveillance sweeps, weekly inspection routes, or monthly mapping runs without any manual trigger.

Automatic recharge and ready state

After each mission the drone docks, charges, and returns to a ready state. No battery swapping, no ground crew required between flights.

Cloud data delivery

Footage and mapping data uploads automatically to a cloud platform after each mission accessible to authorised users from any device, anywhere.

Three ways to deploy remote drone operations

Choose the model that matches your operational requirements and the level of involvement you want in day-to-day drone management.

Model 1

Purchase & Operate

You own the docking station and drone. Your team operates day-to-day. Look Up Pro handles supply, installation, integration, and provides training plus ongoing UASOC compliance coverage for your aircraft under our certificate.

Hardware procurement and site installation

Network and cloud platform integration

Pilot training and operational handover

OpsSpec registration under our UASOC

Ongoing compliance support

Best for: operations with in-house technical staff who want full ownership and control.

Model 2

Purchase & Outsource

You own the hardware. Look Up Pro manages all operations remotely flight scheduling, mission execution, maintenance monitoring, and data delivery. You access results through the cloud platform.

Full remote operations management by Look Up Pro

Scheduled and on-demand mission execution

Data processing and cloud delivery

Maintenance monitoring and fault response

Monthly operations reporting

Best for: operations that want drone data without building an internal drone team.

Model 3 Turnkey

Full-Service Leasing

Look Up Pro provides and owns the hardware, handles all operations, and delivers data as a managed service. You pay a monthly service fee and receive the outputs no capital outlay, no operational burden.

Hardware provided and maintained by Look Up Pro

Complete operations management

All compliance, licensing, and insurance covered

Defined SLA for mission completion and data delivery

Scalable add sites without capital expenditure

Best for: operations wanting a predictable monthly cost and zero internal drone overhead.

Where docking systems deliver the most value

Mine Site Monitoring

Automated perimeter sweeps, stockpile change detection, and production monitoring. The drone runs daily without disrupting mine operations or requiring a dedicated pilot on site.

Security & Surveillance

Scheduled night patrols, alarm-triggered response flights, and perimeter coverage for industrial sites, energy facilities, and large secure premises without guard cost implications.

Solar & Energy Infrastructure

Regular thermal inspection of solar arrays, powerline patrols, and substation perimeter monitoring on a defined schedule without manual inspection costs and safety risks.

Conservation Area Monitoring

Daily wildlife patrol and anti-poaching overflights across large reserves. Thermal detection at dawn and dusk without bringing a pilot team to a remote location each day.

Construction Progress Tracking

Automated weekly or daily site capture for project progress documentation, earthworks monitoring, and client reporting without scheduling a survey team for each capture run.

Logistics & Port Surveillance

Cargo yard monitoring, vehicle tracking, and perimeter coverage for large logistics operations where ground patrol gaps leave significant areas unmonitored between rounds.

Four operational advantages

01

Always available

The drone is on site, charged, and ready 24 hours a day. Response time from trigger event to airborne is measured in seconds, not the hours it takes to mobilise a pilot team.

02

Predictable cost

Once installed, operational costs are fixed and predictable no variable day rates, travel costs, or standby fees that come with mobilising pilots to site for each operation.

03

Consistent coverage

The same flight path is flown each time. The data produced is directly comparable period to period critical for stockpile monitoring, rehabilitation tracking, and security pattern analysis.

04

Reduced personnel risk

Remote sites, active mines, and high-risk security environments are monitored without placing personnel in those environments. The drone takes the exposure the team stays safe.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Autonomous drone operations in South Africa, including docked systems, still require the operation to be conducted under a valid UASOC and by or under the supervision of a licensed remote pilot. The autonomous nature of the flight does not remove the regulatory requirement for a certificated operator. Look Up Pro's UASOC covers docked operations and all flights are logged under our certificate. For clients choosing the Purchase & Operate model, pilots must hold valid SACAA licences; we advise on this during setup and can assist with UASOC onboarding arrangements.

The DJI Dock 2 and Dock 3 connect via 4G/LTE mobile data, 5G where available, or site Wi-Fi. For remote sites without reliable fixed connectivity, a 4G router with a suitable data SIM is typically installed alongside the dock. The remote command and mission planning platform (DJI FlightHub 2) operates over the internet; the dock itself does not need fibre. We assess connectivity requirements during the site scoping process and specify the right solution for your site's location and infrastructure.

The DJI Dock 2 and Dock 3 are rated to IP55, meaning they are protected against dust and water jets from any direction. They are designed for outdoor deployment in varied weather and will continue to protect and charge the aircraft in rain, wind, and low temperatures. The aircraft itself (DJI Matrice 3D/3TD) is rated to IP54 and is designed for operations in light rain and adverse conditions. Flights are automatically held or aborted if conditions exceed the safe operating parameters defined in the mission settings; the system will not fly in unsafe wind or precipitation conditions that exceed its ratings.

The DJI FlightHub 2 platform provides real-time health monitoring of the dock and aircraft; battery health, motor status, sensor calibration, and connectivity are continuously checked. Fault alerts are sent to the designated operator. For clients on the Outsource or Turnkey service models, Look Up Pro monitors the system and responds to faults. Hardware faults are handled via DJI's warranty and service network. We include a fault response protocol and response time commitment in the service agreement for managed operation clients.

Discuss your remote operations requirement

Tell us your site type, size, what you need the drone to do, and how often. We will recommend the right service model and scope the installation or operational arrangement.
